Completed Heating Installations Around Manchester

This end-of-terrace property had an ageing back boiler tucked in the kitchen chimney breast, difficult to service and no longer efficient. We removed it and fitted a wall-mounted condensing boiler in the same location, running a new flue out through the rear wall rather than up the old chimney. Pipework in the airing cupboard was renewed to modern standards, and the system was flushed before the new boiler was commissioned. The client had hot water restored by early afternoon on the day of the visit.

Ahead of a new kitchen extension being tiled, we laid water-based underfloor heating loops across the full 28 square metre floor area. A manifold was installed in the adjoining utility cupboard, tied into the existing boiler, with its own thermostat so the extension can be heated separately from the rest of the house. The screed and tiling contractors worked over our pipework once pressure testing was signed off.

The client felt several rooms were slow to warm up, which usually points to undersized radiators rather than a boiler problem. We measured heat loss for each of the nine affected rooms and replaced single-panel radiators with correctly sized double-panel units. Thermostatic valves were fitted on each radiator so the household can set different temperatures room by room. Existing pipework was reused where it tested sound.

This top-floor flat still had a gravity-fed system with a loft cold water tank and an airing cupboard cylinder, both taking up storage space the tenant needed. We converted the property to a combi boiler, removed the tank and cylinder, and carried out a power flush on the existing radiators before connecting the new unit. The result was mains pressure hot water and two reclaimed storage areas.

This four-bedroom detached house had a single thermostat covering the entire property, meaning upstairs and downstairs always heated together. We wired in a two-zone control system with a separate smart thermostat for each level, feeding back to a new control panel fitted beside the boiler. The household can now run different heating schedules upstairs and downstairs, useful given the different occupancy patterns during the day.
